Google Borong Power of Norway, For What?
Google Borong Power of Norway, For What? - Although not yet completed, a wind power plant in Norway named Zephyr and Norsk Vind Energi already gets contract from Google. In the contract, Google will buy the electricity produced by the power plant over the next 12 years, after they began operations in late 2017. Zephyr and Norsk Vind Energi has a total capacity of 160 megawatts.
"This is an agreement that wind power Google's first in Norway and the largest to date in Europe, which is an important step towards Google's commitment," said Marc Oman, EU Energy Lead Google Global Infrastructure. Later, they will be the largest wind power plant in the Nordic countries. Google itself uses electricity to power their data centers located in Europe.
"Google already (using electricity) carbon-free since 2007, and is committed to using renewable energy for all of our operations," added Oman, as quoted by Reuters on Friday (07/01/2016).
This cooperation agreement administered by BlackRock, the largest asset manager in the world, which will take care of the funding of this project. Unfortunately Google was reluctant to mention the money they spend on electricity purchase this cooperation.
