Max Verstappen So the Youngest F1 Champion
Max Verstappen has not reached the age of 17 years - which means he has not got a driver's license - when hired as an F1 driver. But now he has become the youngest driver to win in F1.
When the finish line in first position in the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday (15/05/2016) yesterday, Verstappen was just 18 years and 228 days. He was about three years younger than when Sebastian Vettel confirmed himself as the youngest rider (21 years and 73 days), which won the F1 in Italy in 2008.
Verstappen victory in Spain of course a great sensation. Not just a very young age and the fact that he took it in his debut race with Red Bull - after the four previous series strengthens Scuderia Toro Rosso. Verstappen managed to give a new color for F1 in a long period dominated by Mercedes. Especially for Red Bull, this was their first win since the race in Spa, 2014.
Dutch citizen, Verstappen is not a foreign name in the world of F1. His father, Jos Verstappen, a former F1 driver who raced active in the period 1994 to 2003. Unlike the children assessed to be 'The Next Big Thing' in F1, senior Vertsappen career in F1 mediocre. He had never won and only two podium finishes.
In contrast to the young Vertappen, he has become a sensation since 2014 when he became a test driver Scuderia Toro Rosso. In the same year he was appointed by Toro Rosso as one of the riders began the season in 2015, to fill the vacancy for Daniil Kvyat sale to Red Bull.
Because the new SIM could dipunya those aged over 18 years, so while undergoing his F1 debut at the Australian Grand Prix 2015 season, Verstarppen not have a license. But he certainly has picked the Super License as a condition to appear in F1. That means he has not been allowed to drive on public roads, but it could menggeber F1 car to penetrate the speed of 200 km / hour.
Only in September 2015 he got his driver's license. "I must say that was a great relief to pass the test (SIM). I was a little nervous worrying about making a mistake, but the test went well," joked Verstappen at the time.
Occurrences Verstappen in the F1 race may eventually force F1 to change the regulations about the age limit. Starting in 2015 every F1 driver must be at least 18 years old. Verstappen is not affected by the rule because he was already established as a Toro Rosso driver since the previous season.
Despite failing to win and never on the podium, the first season at Toro Rosso claimed Vertappen ended satisfactorily. He sits in 12th position the final standings with 49 points, with the best result a fourth place finish in Hungary and the United States.
At the beginning of this 2016 season Vertappen appearance has not increased significantly. In the first four races in a row results he achieved is the position of 10, 6, 8, and failed to finish. But Verstappen turned out to be a promotion to Red Bull about last week.
And in his first race riding a Red Bull he has given the team the victory.
